Semi Precious Stones 101

Semi Precious Stones 101

Semi Precious Stones For such a long time now, I have been fascinated with Semi Precious Stones. My mom has really been the one to get me started actually collecting them and she was the inspiration in me using them in my art work….it has then been taken from there. Where now, I am not only a collector of Semi Precious Stones for my art, I have been more and more intrigued with them. The more I learn the more I love them. Though long ago gemstones might have been found glistening on a beach or along the base of a mountain,...

Tips to spark your creativity

As an Artist here are some tips to spark your creativity! Get inspired; look at pictures what have you seen that you love that you want to do, paint, make, create, and duplicate what you see. Let them motivate and inspire you. Look on the internet, magazines etc…. Loosen up! Don’t be hard on yourself, step outside of the box and do not have tunnel vision or narrow minded thinking. Get a large newsprint pad, large paper or poster board and some good ol’ crayons and let loose, draw whatever you like, think freedom and just letting go.  This...

Art Therapy; combining my illness with art as a professional artist; PART TWO CLICK HERE to read Part One What if I were to take away the end game? To stop trying to attempt the perfect piece that I must sell and have every one love and has to be added into my portfolio or painted with an agenda. Has my painting become too serious? Do I paint for fun? Do I paint to experience the joy of creating? Do I allow ALL of my creativity to come out while expressing myself through each piece I create? If I...

Art Therapy; combining my illness with art as a professional artist; PART ONE

Art Therapy; combining my illness with art as a professional artist I have never really thought of art as therapy before. I’ve always been an artist, it just who I am, but to then combine the two; my complex illness and my art? I am not sure about that? Isn’t that a conflict as a professional artist? As a professional you hide your vulnerabilities and weaknesses, those things that cause you not to produce a mass amount of work that galleries want in order to show constancy and reliability. Hide the negative, show your strengths and grand drive; with...

New Scenery as an Artist; Estes Park Colorado Being in the Mountains As an artist I am inspired by many things. I can literally think of more than 10 things I want to paint all at once (if I could, heck find me a large enough studio and I’d try). I am always full of ideas and images that I have seen that I want to paint. My biggest inspiration is NATURE. Landscapes in particular, for me it is a combination of the mountains and the sea. Growing up in Colorado my grandparents have owned a cabin in Estes...
Anything but Ordinary

Anything but Ordinary

Anything but Ordinary Bland is not a word that is in an artist vocabulary. Ordinary, same, boring….nope we do not like those words either. As an artist; and I may speak for other artist out there, but for myself we as artist are full of passion, creativity, life, love, zest, we are bold and love to be free and colorful ( not just as color its self but in life in general). As artists we just see thing differently. If you’re an artist you’ll understand what I am saying, if you are not, then please understand that does not...

My Detour as an Artist

My Detour as an Artist

Before the Professional Artist came out to the Art World: In the past: Looking back I have struggled with fully devoting myself to being a professional artist for many years. Quite interesting to reflect, but it is helping me embrace who I am now. I fought who I was as an artist for a long time.   One reason was location the other was my own emotions and opinions that played a factor. Location: It did play a roll Being from Greeley Colorado as small town in Northeastern Colorado, we had very little art influence in the town. We...
Nature as my Inspiration

Nature as my Inspiration

Inspired by Natures Elements: Mountains:  Being from Colorado we would always go up to my grandparents cabin in the mountains. I loved it there. I do feel that I will always feel at home there. It is apart of me, I will begin to miss them and crave the mountain air, the sound of the pine trees and aspens blowing in the wind and the how the mountains make me feel. I think it is because of this I love to paint landscapes so much. Landscapes are probably my favorite subject to view with art and I have always been...
Embracing being an Artist

Embracing being an Artist

My Journey as an Artist Art is who I am. Creativity is ingrained in me, it is interwoven into my soul. It is what excites me, fulfills me, and comes naturally to me. It is just “ME”. It has always come naturally to me, which was and is something that I didnt quite realize until I look back into my past.   Further Embracing Who I am as an Artist I knew I was an third generation artist. Yet a few months ago mom told me that Great Grandpa also dabbled with art (pen and ink). Then Grandma went...
My Background as an Artist

My Background as an Artist

History as an Artist: Finding my way as an Artist My mom told me that when I was a little kid just learning the ways of this world that I would trace pictures and draw rather than write words more than most. I think it was just there with me, naturally. I then went onto elementary school and would be one of the most artistic in my class where I won a soda can design contest (big deal back then). A day I will never forget. I remember that it just came to me. The other kids would make...
My History with Semi Precious Stones; Part Two

My History with Semi Precious Stones; Part Two

Getting hooked on Semi Precious Stones: thanks goes to my mom About 14 or so years ago my mom, a professional artist decided to hang up her rubber stamping business and start creating jewelry. So she began buying and collecting semi precious stones. Yes, that is it, she is the culprit to my new found madness for Semi Precious Stones. She started to go to Gem and Jewelry Shows in Denver, an hour from where she lives. She began going crazy. She has shinny object syndrome. She talked about going to these shows and I thought she was crazy....
My History with Semi Precious Stones: Part ONE

My History with Semi Precious Stones: Part ONE

How I began using Semi Precious Stones in my Art In the beginning; As a kid I always loved finding little pieces of nature and keeping these little treasures as my own. I collected pine cones, rocks, shells, and stones. Being in the mountains I would hunt for hours for them, collection them for my grandparents. Grandpa, my brother and I would go out in the yard and collect pine cones, and see who got the biggest one. We would get maybe softball size as the largest we would find, if we were lucky. Needless to say my shock...
Childhood Memories of a Artist

Childhood Memories of a Artist

Art and Creativity as a part of life; Art has ALWAYS been a part of my life. I have so many fond memories creating through out my childhood years growing up. As a kid my mom and I would always be doing something creative and artistic, she was always teaching me something. I would say my mom has been the most influential artistic person in my life.  We would have parties with birthday and have friends over to create something. What ever the trend was at the time we would create it; bandanas with the beads in the 80’s, clay...
History as an Artist, Part Two NOW; the journey continues

History as an Artist, Part Two NOW; the journey continues

History of An Artist Part Two:  I said that “Being An Artist is just WHO I am” it is and always has been a part of me. I do believe that but in the past I also have questioned that and allowed things to get in the way. Some of that has been me and my own personal emotions and fears, others have been outside circumstances or what we like to call : Life.   What has stopped me from being a “real artist”? – People telling me I shouldn’t or cant – People wanting me to do something...
My History as an Artist; Fifth Generation

My History as an Artist; Fifth Generation

My “ART” Background: I am a fifth generation artist, so maybe that explains my love, talent and appreciation of art comes from, making it deeply rooted in me. – Fifth Generation Artist – Third Generation Fine Artist – Second Generation Professional Artist   Artistic Line in my Family: All on my grandmas side of the family First: Great Great Grandma Second: Great Grandpa and Grandma Third: Grandma Forth: Mom Fifth: Me   Great Great Grandma It stems from my moms side of the family, my great great grandma was a large quilter, did a lot of padding, and crocheted...
My Inspiration as an Artist

My Inspiration as an Artist

My Inspiration: It has always been easy to find ideas and inspiration for any project. Anything to me can spark an idea. I will see things in a book or magazine and be inspired and then twist it creatively to where I want it to go. I see something and that just jumps me off into where I need to go. This happens really quick for me. One idea leads to the next until I come up with an idea for the project I would be working on and them I am ready to execute. Nature has and is...
Myself As an Artist

Myself As an Artist

Myself As an Artist People ask me “How long have you been an artist?” I get a bit puzzled by this question. Because….well… I think I was born an artist. It is naturally just who I am.   I think I was born with the golden ratio intertwined in me, I feel I see things differently than most, I see things as an artist. Yet when I say that it sounds so narcissistic, as if when I say it I should be sipping my tea with my pinky out and then flick my hair back to further gloat and...
Moonlite Amethyst Painting: Behind the Scenes

Moonlite Amethyst Painting: Behind the Scenes

Moonlite Amethyst: Behind the Scenes I am asked frequently what my process is when doing a painting with the semi precious stones. Do I put them on before or after I paint them? Both I wanted to share with you my process of this particular painting Moonlite Amethyst where I used the semi precious stones: Amethyst and Mica.   My Inspiration: First: My love of Amethyst. It is hard to say what is my favorite stone. Yet Amethyst is probably one of my top favorites. I just love it. Purple is not particularly my favorite color either but it...
